Acupunctureacupuncture

Acupuncture is part of the Chinese medical system which originated some 5000 years ago and continues today to be of great benefit to health.

The theory of Chinese Medicine states that good health relies on the free flow of Qi (‘chee’), or energy, through channels called 'Meridians' in the body. If Qi is abundant and uninhibited, you will benefit from a healthy body and relaxed mind. Imbalances of this energy can be the cause, or the result, of illness.  The principle of Chinese Medicine is to maintain, or recover the natural balance and circulation of Qi. This balance of energy can be restored by stimulating appropriate acupuncture points along the relevant meridians using high quality, very fine, single-use needles.

Since Chinese Medicine is an entirely holistic method of treatment, it is not the symptom that is treated, but the body as a whole, including the emotions. In this way, the natural balance can be returned and the symptoms of illness resolved.

Reflexologyreflexology

The origins of reflexology can be traced back to ancient Egypt to wall paintings, dating back to 2330 B.C. Modern day reflexology has its origins in Zone Therapy which was pioneered by Dr. William Fitzgerald. Zone Therapy was adopted by Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist, in her treatment of patients in the 1930's. Eventually she mapped the entire body onto the feet. She discovered that a therapeutic effect could be achieved by using pressure from her thumbs and fingers on specific spots, which related to problems elsewhere in the body. These spots are called reflex points.

Reflexology is a fascinating and gentle science based on physiological and neurological study. By working on the whole foot, as well as the problem areas identified on the feet, the whole body is reintegrated, energy can flow and a healthy equilibrium is restored.

Effects of Reflexology:

•        Calms and soothes

•        Reduces stress

•        Encourages elimination

•        Improves circulation

•        Balances energy

•        Stimulates thousands of nerve endings

Some uses of Reflexology:

•        Digestive problems

•        PMT and menopausal symptoms

•        Headaches & migraines

•        Musculoskeletal problems

 Aromatherapyaromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy oils can help promote emotional well-being and good health. Therapists use around 50 oils to help a variety of conditions. Each oil has different therapeutic properties. Oils are chosen and blended to meet the client’s individual needs, providing a synergetic effect that benefits various conditions throughout the body.

Holistic Massage

Massage benefits both mind and body. It is rare that we take an hour to lie down, close our eyes and just 'be'. An hour's peace and quiet away from ringing phones and the demands of life has a definite restorative effect. This form of massage deals with you as a 'whole'. It is not just looking to treat the symptoms, but to establish the cause, whether it be internal or external.  The aim is to rebalance the body so it achieves homeostasis or balance. The training for the therapist is quite extensive, as it not only covers massage, but also anatomy and physiology, nutrition and general health.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage aids taut muscles to relax. This is combined with specific strokes that encourage lymphatic drainage, helping to release toxins. The benefits can be felt by all ages, backgrounds and lifestyles. According to the Massage Association, research has verified that office workers massaged regularly were more alert, performed better and were less stressed than those who weren't massaged. It is not just office workers who benefit. Stress affects different people in a myriad of ways, physically and emotionally.

Stiffness and soreness in muscles can be due to a wide range of physical factors -  from an overly energetic session in the gym, to poor posture through being seated at a desk all day. However, the causes may not always be physical. Emotional tension and the day to day stresses that life throws at us can manifest as headaches caused by a stiff neck and shoulders and the body generally tensing up in response to stress.

deep tissue massage is particularly useful for sports injuries as the therapist pays particular attention to areas that require attention.

Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is based on the Ayurvedic system of healing, which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years.

The aim of Indian head massage is to release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders.

This massage is especially good for relieving stress, tension, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, migraine and sinusitis. Clients report that the experience is deeply calming and relaxing, leaving them feeling energised, revitalised and better able to concentrate.

Indian head massage helps increase joint mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders, improves blood circulation and lymphatic flow, frees knots of muscular tension, relaxes connective tissue, and aids in the elimination of accumulated toxins and waste products. It is particularly good for reducing the effects of stress and tension.

Reiki

Reiki was developed in the mid-1800s by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese scholar. According to the history that has been passed down among Reiki teachers, Usui made a long pilgrimage around the world, visiting many ancient religious sites and studying ancient books. Reiki teachers believe that Usui found clues leading back nearly 10,000 years to healing arts that originated in ancient Tibet. During his intense studies, Usui believed he had a spiritual experience, which enabled him to heal with his hands by becoming aware of and tapping into the Universal Life Force.

The principle of Reiki is that the body has an energy field, which is central to its health and proper functioning. This energy travels in certain pathways that can become blocked or weakened. This idea of energy flow in the body is also a central concept in Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine. A Reiki practitioner is trained to be able to detect and release these energy blockages by directing Universal Energy through the patient.

Finally, Usui claimed that a healing attitude was free from worry and fear, was filled with gratitude for life and for others, and placed emphasis on each person finding honest and meaningful work in their lives—all this, in order to complete the picture of overall health.
